Beginning in May 2008, I began working as a redesign consultant for the Fort Drum Blizzard, the newspaper of the Fort Drum military base just outside of Watertown, N.Y. The newspaper was switching from a tabloid to a broadsheet, renaming and rebranding itself and looking for a completely new look.

Here's what the Blizzard looked like before the redesign:


Over the next few months, I worked with the Fort Drum staff to hammer out an entirely new newspaper: The Mountaineer. During this time, the new design evolved with each visit. On Oct. 23, 2008, the new Fort Drum Mountaineer hit the base.

The redesigned newspaper is not only a broadsheet but is now also made up of two sections (as seen below).
